Guise Fields
July 22, 2026
What I Notice, Right Here, Right Now.
A guise field is what I call the feeling in my body when I move away from discord.
I think of my Self as loving and kind. I believe I am attentive. I believe I care.
Then I feel misunderstood. Misinterpreted. Betrayed. I feel trust leave my body. I feel my Self become certain. I feel the impulse to go quiet.
This is where the guise field begins.
It feels like love. It feels like care. It feels like wanting the relationship to be okay. It gives me ideas about what the relationship could become. It lets me stay inside the possibility of it.
It does not ask me to say what is happening now.
In an instant, I can be caring instead of honest. Attentive instead of vulnerable. Quiet instead of clear.
My friend was talking about gift economy. I wanted to introduce Bitcoin as affirming resonance with her ideas. She did not know anything about Bitcoin. I interpreted that as non-interest and felt misunderstood. That was two weeks ago. I notice I did not take this to her until today.
The feeling is subtle. It does not feel like avoidance. It feels good. It feels like tenderness.
Something is extracted. The chance to be known while I am still raw. The chance to know whether the other person can meet me there. The chance for trust to become real through the discomfort of telling the truth.
I want relationships with skin in the game. I want trust, vulnerability, and stamina. I want to know whether each of us can speak from the place not yet composed.
There are many guise fields. I may not see them all.
I can feel discord.
What stops me may be the very place I need to speak from.
Is there a willingness to risk my unformed truth, long enough to understand my Self, and someone else?
